Dragon Snake
By: Noah Godina
Subject Matter:
This was just a representation and symbolism of many things that I like. The different sections really were something that represent separation and organization. These are some representations of strong and independent animals. The snake and dragon both being very strong respected animals. This is just overall something that I made to show these symbols and the overall vibe they carried.
Symbolism:
I wanted to really showcase the two images that I chose to focus on the dragon and the snake. I chose different colors to represent the two images to represent them differently.
Project Description:
For this project we had to create a design that we would then carve onto a soft block. I decide to take inspiration form a Mexican stamp design book. From here we would place ink onto the block which we then print to create the image we had carved onto the paper. From here you had a variety of choices to what you could do to change your design.
Design and Technique:
To transfer first onto my block I had to do a image transfer. I first had my drawing scanned which then I used to transfer onto my block. After this I started carving out the image that I wanted to print. Each tim you printed you had to put block printing ink on the plexi glass which you would then roll onto your block. I used a soft block and also carving tools to start carving my design. As I made progress I continued to print proofs on print paper to see which adjustments I would have to do as I moved forward. With this you had to take in to account what you wanted to carve and weather in would be black or white in the end. I then made different colors some using just the black ink and some with different colored paper this method was called Chine Colle. Also some with watercolor which is called A la Poupee . Overall used many different techniques to make some different final prints. Overall I liked the way my final prints looked on the final print paper.
Spanish Personification
I am the fire from which the dragon we breathe. / Yo soy el fuego del cual el dragón respiramos.
I am silent and alive like the snake. / Estoy en silencio y vivo como la serpiente.
