Throughout my time here I have learned some things about myself and about my working environment. I enjoy doing in everyday and doing tasks that have been assigned to me by my mentor or others in the office. Office work i found out it not my favorite. Depending on tasks that have to be done days can go by extremely slow in the office or very fast.
This years work experience is very different for me. Last year I was working on cars everyday, something very physical. This year I am sitting in a office doing a lot of differnt tasks on a computer. These are two completely different experiences. Looking towards the future with a interest in business I believe a office space is more likely in my future. This is something that i have now experienced and find ok. I believe my tasks that I will be working on are what will determine my enjoyment. 1. Date/time of meeting and how the meeting was held
Wednesday January 15th at 1:00 AM 2. Choose two other people who were on your conference call. (Dylan Lewis, Matthew Mau, Coby Uribe) and Matthew Arucan b. A description of where their internship is
Scripps Institute of Oceanography researches a variety of different topics. The Aburto Lab in specific focuses on mangrove habitats and their effects on residing ecosystems. RE/MAX connections is a real estate company that supports clients who are searching to buy or sell their homes. Brokers and Agents can both be found at this company. Brokers are able to work for themselves, while agents, have to work under a broker who is licensed. d. An overview of the project they are undertaking at that work site (the objective and how they will be meeting that objective) The main focus of their project consists of labeling mangroves using QGIS programs. The data found will be input into an algorithm to do this job automatically. This data will be useful to regions whose local economy depends on fisheries. Being able to monitor the health of mangroves will help fisheries generate more revenue by determining locations with a higher population of fish. Matthew’s internship project is broken down by each week. The first week he supported his mentor transfer data into a CRM system. In the second week, he focused on lead generation, which is figuring out how to gain new clients. The third week is focused on marketing and learning how to market yourself with the last week focusing on the client interface, which is being face-to-face with clients. e. A description of at least two things that struck you about their internship. Be sure to explain why. Being in a professional lab, the environment in which this research takes place is interesting. The lab is more of workplace for productivity and creating project ideas rather than working with chemicals and conducting experiments. Also hearing that there are very many young people working with them as peers was also very interesting to hear about. One thing that was shocking was hearing that you could enter the real estate business straight out of high school, without any type of degree. Another thing that struck me was learning that some real estate agents don’t utilize technology or social media to grow their business and they are still successful. Social Media I would have thought is the #1 way to grow a business especially now. I knew my workplace was at the stadium but I didn't realize exactly where. The window from my office is right above the field which I found really cool. I never knew there was offices at stadiums like these.
All my colleagues are great. Each person has their own specialty from finances, marketing, events, and sponsors. Every person here has a specific task or focus which I found very interesting. Something that strikes me is the amount of members that are a part of this organization. Only 7 people work full time here at the offices but there are hundreds of other members that volunteer their time to make this company continue moving forward. I look forward to seeing what other tasks I may be presented with in the future. It is only day 2 but I look forward to what is coming. I do not have any wonderings about my role or workplace. I will be going to intern with the CEO of the Holiday Bowl, Mark Neville. The offices for this company are located at the SDCCU stadium in San Diego. I am not fully sure about what my project will be yet. My daily responsibilities I think will entail in anything that needs to get done around their offices or specific assignments that my mentor would like me to complete. I am excited to learn about what it takes to run a company or organization fo this size and see all of my mentors responsibilities.
